We believe that each believer, through ongoing faith in the work of Christ and dependence on the power of the Holy Spirit, should seek to glorify God by living a sanctified life, because our God is so worthy of and wants our total consecration. We should separate ourselves from religious apostasy and all worldly and sinful practices, as commanded by God in the Scriptures.
1 Pet 1:14-16; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Cor 5:9-13; 1 Cor 6:20 2 Cor 6:14-7:1; 1 Jn 2:15-17; 1 Jn 3:5-9; 2 Jn 9-11
We believe it is the privilege and reality of all who are born again, to be assured of their eternal salvation. Those who are saved, by the sovereign initiative of God, are kept by His power and are therefore secure in Christ forever. Though it is the privilege of all true believers to rejoice in their eternal assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word, they should never use their Christian liberty as an occasion for sinful living.
Jn 3:16, 18, 36; Jn 5:24; Jn 6:37; Rom 6:1-2; Rom 8:28-39; 2 Cor 5:1; 2 Cor 6:8; 2 Tim 1:12, 1 Jn 5:13
We believe the Holy Spirit equips believers for service by bestowing upon them spiritual gifts. These gifts are for the glorifying of God and for the perfecting of the saints. Some gifts listed in the New Testament however, were temporary in nature, and were intended only for the infancy of the church. For example: speaking in tongues and the working of sign miracles during the formation of the church were for the purpose of pointing to and authenticating the apostles as revealers of divine truth.
1 Cor 12:4-11; 1 Cor 13:8-10; 2 Cor 12:12; Eph 4:7-12; Heb 2:1-4; Jn 14:16, 17; Rom 8:14-27; 2 Cor 13:14; 1 Cor 21:13: Lk 24:49; Jn 16:7-9; Acts 1:5, 2:4; Rom 8:29; 2 Cor 3:18; Eph 2:22 .
We believe there are (only) two New Testament Church ordinances, water baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances are not sacraments, but are symbolic, pointing to the world’s only Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Water baptism is the single immersion of the believer in water and is properly called ‘believers baptism.’ It is a testimony that shows forth a believer’s faith in the crucified, buried and risen Savior. It reveals his or her union with Christ in death to sin and in resurrection to a new life. It is also a sign of fellowship and identification with the visible body of Christ. It is a prerequisite to the privileges of local church membership, but it is not essential to salvation.
Acts 8:36-39; Rom 6:1-11; Mt 28:19; Jn 3:23; Acts 2:38-42; Col 2:12
The Lord’s Supper is symbolic and a proclamation of Christ’s death until He comes when we remember the Lord Jesus Christ. The elements of communion are representative of the flesh and blood of Christ, and therefore serve as a remembrance of Him and His finished redemptive work.
Matt 26:26-29; Lk 22:19-20; 1 Cor 11:23-32; 1 Cor 10:1-16
We believe and teach that the “universal church” is in reality the Body of Christ of which He is Head. It is also referred to, in the New Testament, as the Bride of Christ. It began with the New Testament saints and will end at the coming of Christ in the Rapture. It is a spiritual organism. Every person who has trusted Jesus Christ for salvation in this present age is in that church.
Mt 16:18; Eph 1:22-23; Eph 4:14-16,20-22; Eph 5:23; 1 Thess 4:13-18
A local church or assembly, as established in the Scripture, is a congregation of believers who have been baptized by immersion and who are openly and actively associated by faith and fellowship of the Gospel and who meet together for worship, prayer instruction, fellowship, and service. We believe in the priesthood of all believers, the diversity of spiritual gifts and the liberty for them to operate, and the distinction of function between men and women.
Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 11-14; Acts 13:1-2; 20:6-7; 1 Cor 12:12-28; 1 Cor 1:2; Gal 1:2; Eph 4:11-16; Eph 5:21-33
We believe that the role of the church is twofold. In the community it is the fulfilment of the Great Commission in evangelising and making disciples of all nations. In the congregation it is the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, both in the church and in the greater community.
Acts 1:8; Mt 28:19-20; Rom 15:26; 2 Cor 9:8-9
We believe and teach that the local church is to be self-governing and free from any external authority or control. Its only Head and supreme authority is Christ. All church leadership, gifts, order, discipline and worship, are appointed through His sovereignty, as found in the Scriptures. Biblically the designated leaders serving under Christ and over the assembly are elders and deacons, both of whom must meet the biblical qualifications. The oversight of the spiritual life and direction of the church is vested in its elders,
Mt 18:15-17; Acts 6:1-6; 1 Tim 3:1-14; Tit 1:5-9; 1 Pet 5:1-5; 1 Cor 5:4-7
It is scriptural for churches to cooperate with each other in contending for the faith and in the furtherance of the Gospel. The church will determine the measure and method of its cooperation through their prayerful application of Scripture.
Rom 16:1-2; Acts 15:19-31; Acts 11:22, 29-30
The ultimate purpose of the church (both universal and local) is to glorify God.
Eph 3:21; 1 Pet 5:1-4
We believe and teach the bodily, pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ in the air and that this will happen before the seven year tribulation period. We refer to this event as the ‘rapture’, in that Christ will translate His church from this Earth. He will later come with His church, at the close of the tribulation, to judge the living and set up His kingdom on earth. Between these two events, the believers will be judged and rewarded, according to their works. Jn 14:1-3; 1 Thess 4:13-18; Tit 2:13; Matt 25:31-46; Rev 19:11-21; 1 Cor 3:11-15, 15:51-53; 2 Cor 5:10
We believe and teach that God has a separate program for the nation of Israel, declared in a series of covenants. This program includes her judgment, repentance, acknowledgment of the Messiah and the restoration of a redeemed remnant to the Promised Land. Israel will occupy a place of honor and blessing when Christ reigns as King, during the millennium. Gen 12:1-3; Deut 30:1-10; 2 Sam 7:16; Jer 31:31-37; 33:19-26; Rom 11:12, 25-27
